College in Cardboard

For a while now I’ve had a hankering to work in a more 3-dimensional way, to feel the layers and solidity in my hands. I was interested in capturing the rolling hills from my drawing day at Oxcombe Pottery and the feeling that they envelop all around you.

This time I painted straight onto some large sheets of cardboard, then cut them up and layered the together to build a landscape.

This was really enjoyable, and I see lots of potential to develop this further when time allows. I’m beginning to recognise that my practice gets better when I build new and different things into it. Working on lots of different ideas and jumping between them as I feel like it gets my endorphins going, I’m happy and excited to be in my studio and that’s the best place to be working from.
