Can you pick a favourite?

An interesting experiment into what people like….. I have four paintings on Saunders Waterford 640gsm Watercolour paper (a lovely really heavyweight paper that takes a lot of paint), these developed over a few months. I have a clear favourite and I thought it would be fun to see if other people felt the same. I shared them all in an Instagram post and asked people to let me know which they liked best. Well, the results surprised me! Only one other person chose my favourite, lots were split between the other three! One of the reason’s I’d done this was as a bit of a test, I liked these pieces but they felt quite different for me, more abstract and I wasn’t sure about taking them forward or framing them. As much as you shouldn’t rely on the opinions of others, it’s sometimes valuable to see the reactions and not hide pieces in your studio. Also why it is quite valuable to have people visit your studio and see how they respond to pieces in progress. A little side note, my favourite was the first one to sell!
